The observed death fraction is
π=150100=32.
(1)
In the independent two-exponential competing risks model, π=λ/(λ+γ). Thus the observed fraction estimates the share of the combined rate attributable to death. Combining it with an estimate of s=λ+γ yields λ=πs and γ=(1−π)s. This uses the event-type information that the death-only time analysis ignored.
