Use an isometry of the Poincare disc model to move the centre to zero. A hyperbolic disc of radius ρ then has Euclidean radius R=tanh(ρ/2) by the hyperbolic distance formula. The area element of a surface of the Riemannian metric is 4rdrdθ/(1−r2)2, so
Area=∫02π∫0R(1−r2)24rdrdθ=4π(1−R21−1).
(1)
Therefore the area is independent of the centre, and
Area=4πsinh2(ρ/2)=2π(coshρ−1).
