Factor the equation in the Eisenstein integers:
x2−x+1=(x+ω)(x+ω2)=y3.
(1)
Let π=1−ω. Its norm is 3, and
π2=−3ω,
(2)
so 3 is a unit times π2. Suppose x≡2(mod3), say x=3k+2. Since ω=1−π,
x+ω=3(k+1)−π.
(3)
The first term is divisible by π2 and the second has discrete valuation exactly one, so vπ(x+ω)=1. Conjugation gives vπ(x+ω2)=1 as well. Consequently
vπ(x2−x+1)=2.
(4)
But vπ(y3)=3vπ(y) is divisible by three, a contradiction. Hence
x≡2(mod3).
