Write the simple roots of the G2 root system as α short and β long. The Long-root A2 subsystem of G2 has simple roots
δ1=β,δ2=3α+β.
(1)
If ω1,ω2 are its fundamental weights, then the A2 root-weight relations give
α=ω2−ω1,α∨=δ2∨−δ1∨,β∨=δ1∨.
(2)
For the A2-dominant weight λ=aω1+bω2, therefore,
⟨λ,β∨⟩=a,⟨λ,α∨⟩=b−a.
(3)
The dominant weight inequalities for G2 are thus equivalent to
b≥a
(4)
because A2-dominance already gives a,b≥0.
