Let YHe≃0.25 be the present primordial helium mass fraction. If nHe is the helium-nucleus density and nH the hydrogen-nucleus density, then
nb=nH+4nHe,np=nH+2nHe.
(1)
Since YHe=4nHe/nb,
nbnp=1−2YHe≃0.875.
(2)
This retains the correction from neutrons bound in helium. Charge neutrality requires one electron per proton, including bound electrons, so with the baryon-to-photon ratio η=nb/nγ≃6×10−10,
nγne=nbnpη≃5.3×10−10.
