Stokes theorem gives
I=∮∂SA⋅dr.
(1)
For the upward orientation, the outer circle r=2,z=1 is counterclockwise from above and the inner circle r=1,z=4 is clockwise. On a counterclockwise circle of radius R and height z,
∮A⋅dr=−R2∫02π(3sin2θ+zcos2θ)dθ=−πR2(3+z).
(2)
The outer circle contributes −16π. The inner circle would contribute −7π counterclockwise and hence contributes +7π with its induced clockwise orientation. Thus
I=−16π+7π=−9π,
(3)
agreeing with the direct calculation.
