Appending the node −2 to the existing Newton interpolation polynomial gives
p4(x)=p3(x)+a4x(x−1)(x−2)(x−3).
(1)
At the new node,
p3(−2)=−82,(−2)(−3)(−4)(−5)=120.
(2)
The condition p4(−2)=10 therefore gives
a4=12010−(−82)=3023.
(3)
Hence
p4(x)=4x−3x(x−1)+37x(x−1)(x−2)+3023x(x−1)(x−2)(x−3).
