The equation (A∗A+α∗I)u∗=A∗f is the Tikhonov normal equation. For u=u∗+h, expand the Tikhonov regularization functional:
ϕα∗(u)=ϕα∗(u∗)+2Re⟨A∗(Au∗−f)+α∗u∗,h⟩X+∥Ah∥Y2+α∗∥h∥X2.
(1)
The normal equation makes the linear term zero. The final two terms are nonnegative and are strictly positive for h=0 because α∗>0. Thus u∗ is the unique global minimizer.
