The adele ring is the restricted product
AK=∏v′Kv={(xv)v:xv∈Ov for all but finitely many finite v}.
(1)
Addition and multiplication are componentwise. If xv,yv∈Ov outside finite sets, then xv+yv,xvyv∈Ov outside their union, so these operations are closed on AK. The componentwise ring axioms make it a ring. Its restricted product topology has basic open sets ∏vUv with each Uv⊆Kv open and Uv=Ov at all but finitely many finite places.
