This is the Baumslag-Solitar group G=BS(1,2). Its defining relation gives, by mathematical induction,
bnab−n=a2n.
(1)
In the cyclic subgroup H=⟨a⟩ with generator a,
dH(1,a2n)=2n,
(2)
whereas in G, with generators a,b,
dG(1,a2n)≤2n+1.
(3)
If inclusion were a (λ,ε)-quasi-isometric embedding, its lower bound would imply
λ−12n−ε≤2n+1
(4)
for every n, which is impossible because an exponential function eventually dominates every linear function. Hence H is not quasi-isometrically embedded; it is an exponentially distorted subgroup.
