i
For each observed event i with vi=1, let Ri={j:xj≥xi} be its risk set. The Cox partial likelihood is
Lp(β)=∏i:vi=1∑j∈Rieβzjeβzi.
(1)
Maximize it to obtain β, estimate its variance from the observed partial information, and test H0:β=0 using a partial likelihood-ratio test, Wald test, or score test. A positive fitted coefficient means the group with z=1 has the larger hazard.
