A left group action is a map a:G×X→X satisfying
a(e,x)=x,a(gh,x)=a(g,a(h,x))(g,h∈G, x∈X).
(1)
Define ρa(g):X→X by ρa(g)(x)=a(g,x). The action axioms give
ρa(g)∘ρa(g−1)=ρa(e)=idX=ρa(g−1)∘ρa(g).
(2)
Hence each ρa(g) is a bijection, with inverse ρa(g−1), and belongs to the symmetric group Sym(X). Finally,
ρa(gh)(x)=a(gh,x)=a(g,a(h,x))=(ρa(g)∘ρa(h))(x),
(3)
so ρa:G→Sym(X) is a group homomorphism.
