On the constraint x2−z2=1, substitute x2=1+z2 to obtain
f=1+z2+y2+z=(z+21)2+y2+43.
(1)
Therefore the two global minima are
(x,y,z)=(±25,0,−21),fmin=43.
(2)
Every pair (y,z) is allowed on either smooth branch x=±1+z2, so these are also the only local extrema. There is no local maximum or global maximum: the displayed positive quadratic in (y,z) has no other stationary point and is unbounded above. At the minima Fz=−2z=1, consistent with the hypothesis in part i.
