Plane of the sky

The plane of the sky is the plane through a source perpendicular to the observer's line of sight.

Position angle specifies a projected direction on the sky, conventionally measured from North toward East.

Projected separation is the distance between two objects after their relative displacement is projected onto the plane of the sky.
