In the Black-Scholes model, take Bt=e−ρ(T−t) as a zero-coupon bond numéraire. Holding the fixed stock value θBt requires gt=θBt/St shares. The self-financing conditions for smooth stock and bond holdings give
ht=B0w0−θ+θlog(St/S0)+θ(σ2/2−ρ)t

units of the bond. Since Vt=gtSt+htBt, this yields the displayed wealth. Under the risk-neutral measure, Vt/Bt=w0/B0+θσWtQ: the discounted gain is a constant multiple of Brownian motion.
