For a uniform pro-p group with Ui=Gpi, the map x↦xpa transports congruences by
x≡y(modUb)⟺xpa≡ypa(modUa+b).
(1)
Commutator collection gives (yu)p≡ypup(modUb+2) for u∈Ub, and the power map is an isomorphism Ub/Ub+1→Ub+1/Ub+2. Thus a nontrivial first difference moves down exactly one layer when taking a pth power. Iterating gives the equivalence; completeness supplies unique roots when the congruence is read in reverse.
