The symmetric quantum integer is the displayed Laurent polynomial, with [0]q=0. It obeys [n+1]q=q−1[n]q+qn and [r]q[s+1]q−[s]q[r+1]q=[r−s]q. At a primitive odd ℓth root of unity, [n]q=0 exactly when ℓ divides n.
