Given F(t)=∑r≥0frtr with f0=1, put fr=0 for r<0. The Cauchy identity for symmetric functions and Jacobi–Trudi identity give ∏iF(ti)=∑λsλFsλ(t), degree by degree in the completion. For F(t)=∏j(1−xjt)−1 the coefficients are sλ(x); for F(t)=∏j(1+xjt) they are sλ′(x).
