For the simplified quadrupole equation σγ′+4k2θγ/15=−σγ/τc, neglecting its time derivative and gravitational driving gives σγ=−τcδγ′/5. A radiation-dominated inertia then obeys δγ′′+4τck2δγ′/15+k2δγ/3=0. On slowly varying subhorizon scales the amplitude is damped by exp[−(2/15)k2∫τcdτ]. This coefficient belongs to that truncated collision model, rather than the polarization-inclusive Silk damping equation.
