Under SU(2) as the three-sphere, a Skyrme model field with U→I at infinity defines S3→S3. Choose Ti=−iτi and positive left volume form θ1∧θ2∧θ3. The normalized form is −(24π2)−1tr(U−1dU)3, so the topological baryon number in the Skyrme model equals degU. Generator and orientation conventions fix the sign.
