For a thin hydrostatic isothermal atmosphere, ΔD≃2RpNHH/R⋆2 and H=kBT/(μmug). Hence T≃μmugΔDR⋆2/(2kBRpNH). A measured exoplanet transmission spectrum amplitude constrains NHH, so gravity, mean molecular mass and the number NH of sampled atmospheric scale heights are additional inputs. In a clear fixed-composition model, NH≃log(κband/κcont); clouds or abundance gradients can change it.
