Because σi​σj​=δij​I+iεijk​σk​, the two-site image of the Pauli-matrix AKLT tensor is the direct sum of the scalar and antisymmetric subspaces, which have total spin zero and one. Its orthogonal complement is the symmetric traceless total-spin-two subspace.
