For wa′=−ηtB0f, ⟨f⟩=1 and positive diffusivities, the Zeldovich planar flux balance gives G=(ηt/η)B02[1−(ηt/η)Var(f)], where G=⟨∣∇a′∣2⟩. The Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and a Poincaré inequality ⟨a′2⟩≤d2G/π2 give ηt2Var(f)≤⟨w2⟩d2s(1−s)/π2, with s=(ηt/η)Var(f)∈[0,1]. Maximizing s(1−s) gives the displayed bound. Large turbulent-to-microscopic diffusivity therefore requires f to be close to one in mean square, without guaranteeing pointwise uniformity.
