Hohmann transfer orbit
is an elliptical
orbit
used to transfer
a
spacecraft
between two circular
orbits
of different
altitudes
around
a
celestial body, typically
a
planet
. This maneuver is named after the German
engineer
Walter Hohmann, who described it in 1925.
