The Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) probability distribution is a principle used in statistics and information theory to derive the probability distribution that best represents a set of known constraints while making the least additional assumptions. The fundamental idea is to maximize the Shannon entropy subject to certain constraints, typically represented by expected values of some functions.
