Raymond Davis Jr. (1914-2006) was an American physicist known for his significant contributions to the field of astrophysics and solar physics. He is particularly famous for his work in the detection of neutrinos, which are elusive subatomic particles that are produced in nuclear reactions such as those that occur in the sun. Davis conducted pioneering experiments using a large underground detector in a mine in South Dakota to measure neutrinos emitted by the sun.
