Roger Bacon (c. 1214–1292) was a medieval English philosopher, Franciscan friar, and early advocate of the scientific method. He is often regarded as one of the first proponents of empiricism and experimental science in the Western tradition. While he is not primarily known as a physicist in the modern sense, his contributions to philosophy and science laid important groundwork for later developments in both fields.
