Algae is a broad name for several photosynthetic eukaryotic groups, rather than one exclusive clade. The older name blue-green algae for cyanobacteria is misleading in a comparison of cellular organization: cyanobacteria are bacteria, with neither chloroplasts nor a cell nucleus.
