 Local density of states

The local density of states resolves the density of states by position as well as energy. With a consistent counting of spin states, its integral over the specimen's volume gives the total density of states, $g(E)=\int \rho (\mathbf{r},E)d^3\mathbf{r}$. It describes the spatial distribution of available states, rather than their occupation.
