 Multiply twinned nanoparticle

A nanoparticle formed from several crystallographic domains joined by twin boundaries. Low-energy external facets can compensate the internal boundary and elastic-strain cost; fivefold motifs cannot extend as an unstrained periodic bulk crystal.
