For smooth spatial fields Ei,Cij, define a torsion-free connection on R×Rn by Γi00=−Ei, Γi0j=Γij0=−Cij/2 and all other coefficients zero. The time geodesic equation is t¨=0. For t˙=0, use t as affine parameter; the spatial geodesic equation becomes d2xi/dt2=Ei+Cijdxj/dt. In dimension three, Cij=2ϵikjBk realizes x¨=E+2B×x˙. Such a connection need not preserve a metric; a spacetime description of these trajectories only needs affine geometry.
