For an isotropic harmonic oscillator with inertial frequency 2ω, viewed in a frame rotating at ω, initial rotating coordinates (1,0) and zero relative velocity produce the displayed astroid trajectory. The complex coordinate satisfies ζ¨+2iωζ˙+3ω2ζ=0, with solution ζ=43eiωt+41e−3iωt. The relative speed is (3∣ω∣/2)∣sin2ωt∣, attaining its first maximum at π/(4∣ω∣) for nonzero ω.
