A regular Lagrangian L:TQ→R defines a fibre derivative FL:TQ→T∗Q and the Cartan one-form θL=(FL)∗θ. Its two-form ωL=−dθL is nondegenerate when the velocity Hessian is invertible. The energy is EL=viLvi−L. The equation ιΓLωL=dEL determines the Euler–Lagrange vector field. A hyperregular Lagrangian makes the fibre derivative a global diffeomorphism and transports this dynamics to Hamiltonian phase space.
