For the C3 root system, take α1=e1−e2, α2=e2−e3, α3=2e3. With columns indexing coroots, the Cartan matrix is
Aij=(αj,αj)2(αi,αj),A=2−10−12−20−12.

The convention with rows indexing coroots gives AT. Both describe a double bond between the short root α2 and long root α3, with arrow toward α2.
