A barrier claim paying a fixed cash amount at the first time the stock reaches a higher level, provided this happens before expiry. In the Black-Scholes model, take a=log(c/S0)/σ and b=(σ2/2−ρ)/σ. Its unit-cash price is EQ[e−ρTa,b1{Ta,b≤T}], given by truncated discounted Brownian first passage. The effective square root b2+2ρ=∣ρ+σ2/2∣/σ is real for every real interest rate.
