For nonzero total momentum P, translating the origin by b changes angular momentum to L−b×P. The displayed line of origins makes this vector parallel to P, equal to (L⋅P)P/∣P∣2. The invariant L⋅P cannot be removed by translation; if it is zero, angular momentum vanishes on this line.
