A sequence of connected subsets with each consecutive pair intersecting has connected union. If the union admitted a separation, each connected subset would lie entirely on one side. Consecutive intersections force consecutive subsets onto the same side, hence all subsets onto one side, contradicting that both sides of the separation are nonempty.
