On its maximal domain in ℓ2, put gn=2nfn. Then gn−gn−1=−2−n(Qf)n, so gn has a finite limit ℓf. Summation gives Re⟨Qf,f⟩=−21(∣g0∣2+∣ℓf∣2+∑n≥1∣gn−gn−1∣2). For α>0, the resolvent equation is the recursion gn=(gn−1+2−nhn)/(1+α4−n), which produces a bounded gn and hence f∈ℓ2. The Lumer-Phillips theorem proves contraction-semigroup generation.
