The cross-product matrix Ax=n×x obeys An=0 and A2=nnT−∣n∣2I, by the vector triple product. On the orthogonal complement of a nonzero n, this is −∣n∣2I; hence the two remaining complex eigenvalues are ±i∣n∣. In an orthonormal basis adapted to n, A is a planar quarter-turn multiplied by ∣n∣, with zero action along its axis.
