At a material velocity jump with continuous background mass density, vertical displacement η and fluid pressure are continuous, while w=ikUη need not be. For a stationary component, p=U2ηz and the signed upward-wave impedance is Z=U2m. Reflection and vertical-displacement transmission are R=(Z1−Z2)/(Z1+Z2) and T=2Z1/(Z1+Z2).
