Unwanted stochastic fluctuations of voltage or electric current. Contributions include thermal noise, shot noise, and resistance fluctuations under bias; their physical origins and dependence on frequency need not be identical. A low-pass filter attenuates the high-frequency part of such fluctuations along with any high-frequency signal.
