For azimuthal flow uϕ=s(Ω0+ωs2), a planar magnetic flux mode smg(t)eimϕ−imΩ0t−is2f(t) obeys the resistive induction equation if f˙=mω−4iηf2 and g˙/g=−4iη(m+1)f. With f(0)=0 and g(0)=1, their solution is f=(mω/μ)tanhμt and g=(coshμt)−(m+1). Choose Reμ>0. For positive η,ω, the fixed-position field decays asymptotically at rate (m+1)2ηmω. Differential rotation creates small spatial scales, accelerating magnetic diffusion.
