Replacement of an exact real arithmetic result by a representable floating-point number under a specified rounding rule. Repeated products can depend on evaluation order, so a recursive rewrite intended to reproduce a floating-point loop should preserve its sequence of accumulator operations. An exact algebraic invariant does not by itself establish equality of rounded machine results.
