The four-wavevector combines the angular frequency and spatial wavevector of a plane wave. Phase invariance gives K′μ=ΛμνKν. Under a boost v, ω′=γ(ω−v⋅k), k∥′=γ(k∥−ωv/c2) and k⊥′=k⊥. For metric signature (+,−,−,−), RμKμ=ωt−k⋅r is a Lorentz scalar. A vacuum light wave has KμKμ=0.
