For a monatomic ideal gas fully convective star, P=Kρ5/3 and K∝RM1/3. Matching its adiabat to a photosphere with P∼g/κ and κ∝ρT10 gives Teff14∝M2R, and hence surface luminosity L∝M4/7R16/7. Specific heating ϵ∝ρT5 gives L∝M7R−8. Equality yields the displayed laws and Teff∝M3/16, so the theoretical HR slope is 32/3. Fixed composition, efficient convection and the surface matching approximation are essential.
