A low-frequency kinetic reduction averaging over fast cyclotron motion while allowing perpendicular wavelengths comparable with the gyroradius. It retains finite Larmor radius effects absent from the leading long-wavelength drift-kinetic equation.

Gyrokinetics
Modification of the plasma response because particles sample fields around a finite cyclotron orbit. Effects become order one at k⊥ρs=O(1); even at k⊥ρs≪1, the leading polarization correction can be essential to a slow dispersion relation.
