For radii 0<a<b, a hard-core spherical square-well potential has V(r)=∞ for r≤a, V(r)=−V0 for a<r≤b, and V(r)=0 for r>b. Its radial wavefunction vanishes at the hard-core radius and is matched continuously with its radial derivative at r=b.

Hard-core spherical square-well potential
For outer radius b=2a and zero-energy well wavenumber κ0=2mV0/ℏ, matching the S-wave scattering logarithmic derivative gives
as=2a−κ0tan(κ0a).

It diverges when κ0a=(n+21)π, where the well has a zero-energy scattering resonance.
