After choosing a Riemannian metric on the source of a submersion F:X→Y, the orthogonal complements Hp=(kerDpF)⊥ map isomorphically to TF(p)Y. Therefore every vector field w on Y has the smooth lift
v(p)=(DpF∣Hp)−1w(F(p)).
