A transverse electric polarization with constant permeability and conserved transverse wavenumber k0sinθ0 satisfies e′′+[β2−(ν2−1/4)/(z−z0)2]e=0, with β2=k02(a2−sin2θ0) and ν2=1/4+k02b2. Substitution e=∣z−z0∣Zν(β∣z−z0∣) reduces it to the Bessel equation. The profile is singular at z0, so each side requires its own boundary conditions.
