For the Fourier transform convention δk=∫d3xδ(x)eik⋅x and covariance ⟨δkδk′⟩=(2π)3P(k)δD(k+k′), inversion gives ξ(r)=∫d3kP(k)eik⋅r/(2π)3. Isotropy reduces the angular integral to 4πj0(kr), where j0(x)=sinx/x is the order-zero Spherical Bessel function. At zero separation this gives the variance if the spectrum integral converges. A nonnegative spectrum can produce negative correlations away from the origin.
